Editorial Policy

A transparent approach to calculation logic, source selection, corrections and updates.

Updated 2026-09-27 · Educational reference · Verify product labels and current official guidance

Primary goal

The site aims to publish useful, understandable curing-calculation content without overstating what a calculator can prove.

Source hierarchy

  1. Official U.S. sources for regulatory or agency statements, especially USDA FSIS where directly applicable.
  2. University extension publications for researched consumer guidance and educational context.
  3. Manufacturer documentation when a claim concerns a specific commercial curing product.
  4. Secondary sources only when they add context and can be checked against better primary material.

Calculation review

Formula changes are tested against known unit conversions and worked examples. Inputs are validated for basic numeric ranges, and results expose the calculation basis so users can audit the arithmetic.

Safety language

We avoid presenting a single generic “safe PPM” number outside a specific product/process context. Reference comparisons are labeled as comparisons and are not presented as certifications.

Corrections and updates

When a source changes, a product formulation changes, or a material error is identified, the affected content and calculations should be re-reviewed. The current editorial review date is September 15, 2026.
